Pinnacle Hike

Despite temperatures in the mid 80’s, Tom and I decided to try out the Pulpit Rock/ Pinnacle Trail. Located in Hamburg, PA, this was not a far distance for us to travel for a day hike. Due to the heat, we left Meika at home and this turned out to be a good ideas as much of this trail was rather rocky. We packed a light lunch of pesto chicken-salad sandwiches and some snacks and hit the road. This trail was 8.5 miles long, but every bit worth the effort. There are various overlooks, a well marked trail and plenty of places to stop for a rest from the sometimes steep climbs.

There was a large bed of deposited glacier rocks at the trailhead.

We enjoyed our lunch atop Pulpit Rock. There is a conservatory located here – we were lucky and arrived in time to catch a glimpse of the suns’ rays through one of the highly powerful telescopes set up there.

We will definitely be back to do this trail again. The vistas are stunning – especially if you can catch them with a smaller crowd sharing the view. This trail intersects with the Appalachian Trail and you can catch thru-hikers on their way past.
