The middle of October…
There is something that has been draining me lately. A burning feeling that something is out of place for me. Its frustrating because I cant quite pinpoint what is causing these feelings to creep up inside of me. They take hold of my spirited love for this time of year, and they stifle my desire to live it up and celebrate!
It could be the way that the seasons take no shame in their signs of change. With every chilling breeze that comes, more and more seemingly lifeless leaves wage a war on the once lush, vibrant green yard. The bare tree limbs are the clear casualties.
Or maybe its the rain, and the way that it has come in long overwhelming waves of greyness that leave you feeling soaked to your core with a lack of motivation for anything that involves getting out of bed. With each directional change the wind makes, I hear the “whoosh” of fallen, drenched leaves urging me to avoid it all, and close myself off.
It may be that I have had to busy myself with so many activities that I find to be mundane and warrant little use of my creativity or resourcefulness.
Whatever the cause, this feeling is one that I have found to linger with me if I allow it to. This downward spiral happens every year, around the middle of October. And, I am proud to say, I did not allow it to take hold of me this weekend…this year. Come the first signs of clear skies, enormous clouds that stand to the heavens and the warm glow of a harvest sun, I jumped at the chance to visit a local orchard.

Deep blue skies shown overhead….
Our first stop was a hay ride that carted us around the extent of the orchard. Past the apple trees, and the “cut your own” saplings preparing for Christmas season. Past the hoards of people waiting to select their own pumpkins and past the enormous stacks of hay bales.

We picked pumpkins, and we sorted them by size.
We pretended to be farm animals!
And we played in the playground, until the only way we’d stop was with the promise of ice cream! 🙂
Children are wonderful to be around. I love their curiosity and their nonchalance with being intrigued by anything and everything. Somehow, children have been far easier to capture on film for me. Maybe, its because they haven’t learned about trying to fit in or appear to be something other than what they naturally are; which is beautiful. “Kids: they dance before they learn there is anything that isn’t music.

Id call a child sleeping so deeply a true success!

And I certainly wont avoid life. Let it rain, and let fall turning to winter run me down like a freight train and leave me yearning for summer again. I can, and will learn to enjoy every moment of life that I can. And, in turn…hopefully I will find peace in the fact that I lived through both the ups and the downs, and found beauty in both ends of the spectrum.
